Houston Dynamo striker Calen Carr suffered a torn ACL on the play that forced him out of MLS Cup last weekend and it’s unclear when he’ll be able to play again, the club announced on Wednesday.
Carr, 30, will undergo several weeks of prehabilitation prior to having surgery to repair his left knee. The surgery date is yet to be determined, and a time table for Carr’s return to the field will be established after the surgery.
The speedy veteran scored the game’s opening goal in the 44th minute off a breakaway feed from midfielder Adam Moffat and staked Houston to a hard-earned 1-0 halftime lead, but his day didn’t last long into the second half. The 6-foot, 150-pound Carr collided with 6-foot-5, 205-pound Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez while pursuing a loose ball just inside the Galaxy penalty box in the 57th minute and immediately buckled to the turf in pain.

Carr almost instantly motioned for a substitution and was eventually helped off the field by Dynamo trainers before he was replaced in the match by Macoumba Kandji. Without Carr, the Dynamo struggled to match the offensive rhythm they found in the first half and eventually lost the game, 3-1.
Carr also suffered a torn ACL in the same knee during his days with the Chicago Fire in July 2008 and later battled his way back from a concussion suffered during the 2011 preseason that limited his minutes with the Fire last year before he was eventually traded to Houston.
He scored four goals and added two assists in 26 regular-season appearances with the Dynamo in 2012, his first full season with the club. He set career-highs in starts (17) and minutes played (1,512) during the regular season.
Kandji, coincidentally, also suffered a torn ACL while scoring the game-winning goal during the MLS Cup final in 2010, while with the Colorado Rapids.
