CARSON, Calif. — Will he get called up or won't he?
That's the question American soccer fans continue to ask when it comes to LA Galaxy centerback Omar Gonzalez and the US national team.
Gonzalez himself thinks that a good performance in the MLS Cup final on Saturday (4:30 pm ET; ESPN, TeleFutura in the US; TSN/RDS in Canada) could influence US manager Jurgen Klinsmann.
"This game is the final.," Gonzalez told reporters at training on Thursday. "It’s where you want to be performing at the top level and I think it’ll definitely hold some water if I do really well. But I’m not worrying about that. I’m worried about the team and worried about winning."
The 24-year-old's last appearance for the red-white-and-blue came back on January 22 of last year against Chile. He has yet to earn a single call-up in the Klinsmann era.
Then again, he's been injured for most of 2012, only coming back from torn knee ligaments during this past summer.
"It’s been quite a year for me. From being injured and then coming back and coming back at five and half months it was pretty scary to come back so soon," Gonzalez said. "It’s been quite a ride and I think with a win [Saturday] it’ll make everything worth it."
