American Exports preview: Cherundolo vs. Bayern, Ribery

Steve Cherundolo with Hannover

AMSTERDAM – Another weekend means another full slate of action for Americans in Europe, with both Steve Cherundolo and Jermaine Jones set for top-of-the-table skirmishes in Germany. All times listed in ET.

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Clint Dempsey, Brad Friedel – Tottenham Hotspur vs. West Ham United (Sunday, 11 am on beIN Sport)

The man they call Deuce has not hit in five games, but did score in two of his last three derbies against the Hammers with Fulham. Suddenly the subject of transfer rumors linking him with old side Blackburn and Southampton, Friedel is expected to serve as Spurs backup. Tottenham have dropped four of five league games and their past two at White Hart Lane. However, they have not conceded at home to West Ham in 450 minutes and haven't lost this fixture since 1996.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA

Steve Cherundolo – Hannover 96 at Bayern Munich (Saturday, 9:30 am on GolTV)

Having won just two of their last seven league games, Hannover will hit the road to tackle the leaders. Cherundolo draws the always taxing assignment of marking France star Franck Ribéry, who has three goals and six assists in just seven outings this term. The Reds have fallen the last five times at Allianz Arena by combined tally of 20-2. This time around, they'll invade without injured striker Didier Konan Ya.

Jermaine Jones – Schalke vs. Eintracht Frankfurt (Saturday, 9:30 am)

The US midfielder should take his customary place when the second-place Miners welcome the surprise package sitting just one goal in differential behind them in the table. Jones has notched a late game-winning assist in two of the last three games. Schalke have won four in a row at home, allowing just one goal in that span. They've also beaten Eintracht six consecutive times at Veltins.

DUTCH EREDIVISIE

Jozy Altidore – AZ Alkmaar vs. Feyenoord (Sun. 8:30 am)

The AZ striker will try to hit double figures for the second straight season by striking against the Rotterdammers for the first time. Altidore has five goals in his last four at home, but will go without the set-up services of Viktor Elm and Maarten Martens, and winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson may also miss out. Each side won at home last season, but the Cheese Farmers have suddenly dropped two straight in their barn.

DANISH SUPERLIGA

Conor O'Brien – SønderjyskE vs. FC Copenhagen (Sun. 11 am)

While the American transfer topic has been playing well this season, his team is struggling mightily to stay above the danger line. SønderjyskE have leaked 13 goals in losing four straight matches, including a 3-0 cup defeat at home to Copenhagen. Prior to that, they'd avoided defeat to the Lions in four of five at home.
