American Exports: Jones helps Schalke upset at Arsenal

AMSTERDAM – Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones made an impact as a halftime sub as the Miners moved to the top of Champions League Group B with a 2-0 triumph at Arsenal on Wednesday.


Thanks to second-half goals by Ibrahim Afellay and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the visitors climbed to a point above the Gunners after three Matchdays. Schalke are now unbeaten in their last nine road games across all competitions, dating back to last season.


Over in Group C, Oguchi Onyewu made his Málaga debut by coming on in stoppage time of a 1-0 victory over former employers AC Milan. By stretching their home win streak across all competitions to eight, Los Boquerones stayed perfect in the group stage to move five points clear at the top.


Meanwhile, Sacha Kljestan watched on as Anderlecht stayed at the bottom of Group C with a 1-0 defeat at Zenit St. Petersburg.


Turning to Denmark, Conor O'Brien set up the winner as SønderjyskE advanced to the sweet 16 of the DBU Pokalen with a 4-0 away rout of Hjørring.
