American Exports: Howard, Everton foiled by Newcastle

Tim Howard and Everton must replay their FA Cup quarterfinal vs. Sunderland

AMSTERDAM – Tim Howard and Everton had victory snatched from them at the death on Monday night, settling instead for a 2-2 draw with visiting Newcastle.

The Toffees took their second lead of the night through Victor Anichebe with two minutes left on the clock, but there was still time for Demba Ba to complete his brace with a last-gasp equalizer. Howard was fooled on the chance and made an errant leap to stop the Senegalese striker, who calmly put it underneath the onrushing American.

The US netminder made only one save, a big breakaway stop on Hatem Ben Arfa moments before Anichebe's goal appeared to give them full points. In the end, though, Howard conceded twice in an EPL home match for the first time since January.

Over in Germany's 2.Bundesliga, loan attacker Joseph Gyau dressed for the first time but did not appear in St. Pauli's 0-0 stalemate at FC Cologne.
