American Exports: Rogers joins Smith at Stevenage on loan

AMSTERDAM – Leeds United winger Robbie Rogers has joined League One Stevenage on loan until January.

Having spent the last few weeks on the Leeds transfer list, the 25-year-old Rogers (above, with the US national team) was recruited by a familiar face: former Colorado Rapids boss Gary Smith, who has been at the helm of Stevenage since January.

"He's somebody that I know very well from back in the MLS," Smith told the club website. "He’s very versatile. He can play in those creative wide areas or off the front man and can play on both flanks. Adding that to our squad will only benefit us."

The Boro finished sixth in the table last season before dropping a heart-breaker to Sheffield United in the promotion playoff semifinals.

Rogers, who has appeared in only four games for Leeds dude to an unfortunate string of injuries, could become the first American to ever suit up for Stevenage when they visit Oldham on Saturday.
