Hyndman on Shea: Perfect time for return to USMNT

Brek Shea

Schellas Hyndman will hate being without Brek Shea for FC Dallas’ match with Vancouver on Wednesday night (10 pm ET, TSN/MLS Live in US), but he thinks now is the perfect time for Shea to make a return to the US national team.

“I think what you’ll find is Jurgen [Klinsmann] and I both have the best interests at heart for Brek,” Hyndman told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday. “I think this is the perfect time to get back on the national scene and show Jurgen what he’s capable of doing.”

Since returning from a team-imposed two-game absence, Shea has greatly improved for FC Dallas. He notched his first assist of the season in Portland while putting in a solid 90-minute shift in Saturday’s win over Colorado.

“Jurgen and I have been able to work with him and tell him to get back to what he'd been doing, not what he is doing [currently],” Hyndman said. “And I think he’s responded, he’s finding space and playing with the same passion and enjoyment that he’s always had.”

All eyes will be on the Texan on Wednesday night in Mexico City and, regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench, Hyndman knows the only way for Shea to prove the doubters wrong is to do it on the pitch.

“I think he’s had a disappointing season for his expectations, for our expectations and for the national team expectations and it’s [about] how do you right that wrong?" Hyndman added. "Go out there and play.”
