What was this weekend's best match?
Heading into Week 17, the general consensus was that Saturday night's Cali Clasico between the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy was the game of the week. Of course, games that are hyped often don't live up to the expectations.
That wasn't the case at Stanford Stadium. Not even close.
The two sides traded seven goals, engaged in a few minor scuffles and generally thrilled a national television audience on ESPN2 as the Quakes recovered from a 3-1 deficit to extend their lead atop the Western Conference and in the Supporters' Shield race with a 4-3 victory. Needless to say, there was no shortage of action and storylines are still coming out two days after the match.
