Five MLS teams went marching into the US Open Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday, and four are marching on to the semis. Philadelphia, Sporting KC and Chivas USA all defeated lower-division rivals, while three-time defending champions Seattle topped San Jose in the only matchup between MLS teams.

Harrisburg certainly made things interesting for their in-state rivals, but in the end couldn't pull off the upset. Philadelphia went 3-0 up in the first half hour, with a Freddy Adu penalty, Jack McInerney and Lionard Pajoy accounting for the goals. The City Islanders rattled off two quick goals early in the second half through Brian Ombiji and Morgan Langley, but another PK, this time converted by Pajoy, and a delicate chip from Gabriel Gómez sealed the result for the Union. Sporting Kansas City 3, Dayton Dutch Lions 0
Two C.J. Sapong strikes sandwiched a tally from Graham Zusi as Sporting Kansas City outclassed their USL-Pro foes at Livestrong Sporting Park. Sapong put the home side up early, deflecting a Seth Sinovic shot into the goal. Sporting looked the better side and polished off the Dutch Lions with two strikes just before the hour mark. Chivas USA 2, Charlotte Eagles 1
Chivas emerged with a win over USL-Pro outfit Charlottle Eagles, but it wasn't by any means easy, with the Rojiblancos unsure of the result until José Correa's stoppage-time winner, giving him a brace on the night. His cool finish in the second half stood as the lone goal for most of the game, but Chivas had to withstand some heavy pressure from the Eagles, with reserve goalkeeper Tim Melia making a number of important stops. San Jose Earthquakes 0, Seattle Sounders 1
Cordell Cato's first-half goal stood as the winner in a chippy game as the Sounders kept their Open Cup campaign on track despite some less than impressive league showings. Cato sprinted down the right side of the area in the 19th minute and shot for the far post, with the effort rolling in between David Bingham's legs. San Jose enjoyed more of the pressure throughout the game, but couldn't break down a resolute Seattle defense. Alan Gordon saw red in stoppage time for retaliating against a push from Marc Burch, and the match ended on a sour note after Eddie Johnson taunted the Quakes bench, resulting in a near-brawl.
