The San Jose Earthquakes will begin their busiest stretch of the season without their veteran netminder.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee on Wednesday announced that Quakes goalkeeper Jon Busch has been suspended for one game for "aggressively retrieving a ball" against Sporting Kansas City in San Jose's 2-1 loss on May 27. The incident happened in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time as the visitors were pushing for an equalizer.
Busch was also fined an undisclosed amount.
He'll serve the suspension on June 20 when the Earthquakes travel to face Western Conference rivals Colorado Rapids.
Second-year 'keeper David Bingham is likely to fill Busch's shoes for that match. Bingham, who's spent time with the US U-20 and U-23 squads, played in both of San Jose's recent US Open Cup wins, and has a single MLS regular-season appearance to his credit.
Fines collected will be donated to the charitable partners of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the MLS Players Union.
