American Exports: Suitors line up for US youth defender

Parker Walsh

AMSTERDAM — Impending Karlsruher II free agent left back Parker Walsh has a half dozen suitors in Germany, Austria and Scandinavia eager to bring him in for preseason trials.

Promoted 2.Bundesliga newcomers Jahn Regensburg are among a few clubs in that division chasing Walsh's services, and they all have competition from a top flight club in Austria and two up in Scandinavia.

"We are in discussions with several clubs," Walsh's agent, Dieter Heimen, told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "They want him to come for tryouts in the preseason and then we will see."

German camps open on June 20, giving the Virginia native some time to straighten out his forthcoming travel itinerary. Any of the possible signing destinations would represent a large jump in challenge, as Walsh's experience is currently limited to 47 games in Germany's fourth division.

The 20-year-old US youth international started 30 Regionalliga Süd contests for fifth-place KSC II last season.
