Le Toux eager to continue run of success against Seattle

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Sébastien Le Toux has some fond memories of his time as a member of the Seattle Sounders.

The Vancouver Whitecaps attacker has some pretty good ones against them, too.

In four MLS matches against the Sounders, all as a member of the Philadelphia Union, Le Toux has bagged a goal and three assists. The Frenchman, who has been deployed on the right side of an attacking three by Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie this season, hopes to continue that fine form against his old team on Saturday at BC Place (5 pm ET, TSN/RDS2 in Canada; MLS LIVE in US).

“It’s a team I have great memories of,” Le Toux told after training at BC Place on Friday. “It’s a very big city of soccer, so it’s great to play them. Their fans are coming I’m sure to BC Place to support their team, so it’s going to be a great atmosphere, with our fans and their fans.

“To play against them, it’s special for me because I liked to play over there and had some big moments from my career.”

The 28-year-old helped USL version of the Seattle Sounders to a second-tier double in 2007, as the club won the USL First Division Championship and the Commissioner’s Cup.

More famously, Le Toux set up the winning goal in the 2009 Lamar US Open Cup final, setting up Roger Levesque in the 2-1 victory over D.C. United, which secured the Sounders their first-ever Open Cup title.

“You always want to do well against your old team,” Le Toux said. “When I was playing for Philadelphia against Seattle, I always wanted to do well. It’s a special moment and a special game for someone who spent three years over there – three great years.

“Now I’m with the Whitecaps and trying to win the game with the Whitecaps.”

The Whitecaps have almost a full squad available, with only Atiba Harris listed as questionable due to a quad contusion, and third-string goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre continuing to recover from surgery to his right knee.
