Three goals give Wondolowski Player of the Week nod

San Jose Earthquakes' Chris Wondolowski celebrates his goal vs. Real Salt Lake, April 21, 2012.

"Where’s Wondo?" you ask. Oh, right, at the top of the Golden Boot list — where Chris Wondolowski often finds himself.

This week, the San Jose Earthquakes striker also finds himself the media’s darling, after the North American Soccer Reporters voted him Player of the Week for Week 9.

Wondolowski had a very productive week, notching three goals in two matches, to push his goal total to 11 on the season. The first two came in the Quakes’ thrilling 5-3 win over D.C. United last Wednesday. The third came in the side’s last-gasp 2-1 loss away to the Vancouver Whitecaps. That was the Western Conference-leading Quakes’ first loss in eight matches.

Wondo, who won the Golden Boot in 2010 and came in second in 2011, is now two goals ahead of injured New York star Thierry Henry in the race of the 2012 scoring crown.
