Red Bulls aiming for final verdict on Rodgers on Friday

New York's Luke Rodgers celebrates his first MLS goal.

HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls have an update on Luke Rodgers, and they expect to announce it on Friday.

No, seriously this time.

After weeks of silence concerning Rodgers’ visa situation, Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe said the club is aiming to announce a final update on Friday.

“There is [an update],” Backe told reporters after Thursday’s training session at of Red Bull Arena. “I think you will have something, probably kind of like a press release. I don’t like to comment anything before it has been sent out.”

While the Red Bulls may not be revealing what the update is just yet, they are happy to have finally received some more information after weeks of patiently waiting.

“It’s always nice to get something done, [whether] it’s this way or that way,” Red Bulls general manager Erik Solér said. “I think it’s good for everybody inside the team to finally know tomorrow what’s going to happen and whatever direction it goes, we’ll take it from there.”

Born in England, Rodgers had his visa renewal denied in February and has been waiting for the appeal process to finalize. He has been unable to train with the Red Bulls during that time.

The diminutive striker, who scored nine times in 2011, also had visa issues last year before it was finally approved and he was allowed to join the team.
