FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas’ first loss of the season at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday is still eating at midfielder Bobby Warshaw.
“I wish we had won,” Warshaw told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. “I wish I would’ve helped us win and because I didn’t, I feel pretty crappy about it. It was tough to sleep last night. It’ll be tough to sleep tonight just knowing I didn’t help us get a result.”
The second-year player out of Stanford got his first opportunity to log substantial minutes this season when he was subbed on for Ricardo Villar, who came off the field with an injury at the beginning of the second half of Sunday's game at Livestrong Sporting Park.

“I told coach, ‘I’m ready to go. You tell me what I need to do, and I’ll do it,’” Warshaw said. “From there, I had to switch on and get my mind and body ready to play. I gave it all I had.”
With the score tied up at 1-1, the pressure was on Warshaw and the FC Dallas defense to hold Sporting KC. The 23-year-old performed admirably alongside Daniel Hernandez at holding midfielder, but it was Sporting’s Kei Kamara who buried a shot in the back of the net in the 88th minute to hand FC Dallas their first loss of the season.
Ironically, it was Warshaw who scored a late winner in Kansas City last season.
Although the reoccurring image of Kamara’s goal may have caused a couple of sleepless nights, Warshaw was back out training hard with his teammates on Monday in preparation for Friday’s NBC Sports Network match against D.C. United (7:30 p.m. ET).
Warshaw admitted that it is “stressful” not knowing what role he’s going to have on Friday, but if his number is called on once again, he vowed to be ready.
If Villar is unable to go and injuries continue to cripple FC Dallas, Warshaw, who appeared in 17 matches last season, could very well find his way into the starting lineup.
“We just worry about winning," he said. "It doesn’t matter who’s here or who’s not. We go out and win, and that starts from the coach down to the captains down to the other players. After being here for a year, that’s my mentality. If you’re on the field in the red and white jersey, you expect to win.”
