Juan Agudelo

New York Red Bulls forward Juan Agudelo suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee during the US Under-23 team’s 6-0 win over Cuba in CONCACAF Olympic qualifying on Thursday, US Soccer revealed on Saturday.

The Americans will play without the young striker when they take on Canada in the second match of group play on Saturday (7 pm ET, Live Chat on MLSsoccer.com).

Per tournament rules, no replacement player may be added to the roster. No timetable was revealed on how long Agudelo will be out with the injury.

"Thanks every1 for the support and best wishes for my speedy recovery Already," Agudelo wrote on

Agudelo started and scored a goal in the 37th minute off an assist from FC Dallas' Brek Shea, his second goal for the U-23s in as many games after scoring the winner in the USA’s 2-0 win against Mexico on Feb. 29.

Agudelo played the first half of the match against Cuba before he was replaced by Sporting Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury.
