American Exports: Howard signs extension with Everton

Tim Howard

AMSTERDAM — Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has inked a contract extension with the Premier League club through the summer of 2016.

The US No. 1's contract was set to expire at season's end, but he said there was never any doubt his Goodison Park stay would be extended.

"I couldn't be happier," Howard told Everton TV. "I've had a smile on my face ever since we finalized the deal.

"When you have a really good relationship in life and both sides are eager to continue and keep that going, it's a no-brainer. This hasn't been a knockdown, drawn-out type of negotiation with meetings or anything like that. They were very happy to keep me here and I was very, very happy to stay."

Since first arriving from Manchester United on loan in 2006, Howard has worked 256 contests across all competitions for Everton.
