Marquez included in Mexico squad for Colombia friendly

Rafa Marquez

It appears the capitán has served his sentence and will back in green, white and red.

On Thursday, New York Red Bulls midfielder/defender Rafa Márquez was included in the star-studded Mexico roster that will face Colombia in an international friendly at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Feb. 29.

The match will be the first for Márquez since he was left out of the Mexico squad that faced Serbia last Nov. 11 following a reported suspension for on-field indiscipline after the Tri skipper flung a ball at Landon Donovan at the end of the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals.

Márquez was also absent from the Mexico roster that beat Venezuela 3-1 in Houston on Jan. 25.

As one of the few FIFA fixtures remaining before World Cup qualifying competition kicks off in June, José Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre has called upon the full European-based contingent, which includes Manchester United striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernández and the midfield trio of Andrés Guardado (Deportivo La Coruña), Giovani dos Santos (Totteham) and his brother Jonathán dos Santos (Barcelona), among others.

For his part, recently hired Colombia coach José Pékerman is also expected to call upon the country's top talent to revive a Cafeteros side currently stuck in sixth place in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.
