Schedule, matchups set for Amway Canadian Championship

The route to the CONCACAF Champions League is set for clubs north of the border.

The schedule and semifinal matchups for the 2012 Amway Canadian Championship were announced on Friday, pitting the Montreal Impact and Toronto FC against each other and pairing the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and FC Edmonton into the other semi.

Both the semifinals and finals will be home-and-away aggregate-goal series. The semifinal legs will be played on May 2 and May 9, and the finals will be held on May 16 and 23. The four-team tournament will determine the winner of the Voyageurs Cup, which comes with the right to represent Canada in the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League.

Toronto FC have won the past three editions of the tournament. Montreal won in 2008, but are 0-5-1 against the Reds since then. Clubs were seeded based on their 2011 league results in MLS and NASL.
