D.C. United’s defense is about to get a boost. A very large boost.
The Capital Club announced on Wednesday that it has signed 6-foot-4, 198-pound Argentine defender Emiliano Dudar on a free transfer from Swiss club BSC Young Boys. Per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 30-year-old Dudar will be available for selection pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and visa.
“Emiliano has terrific experience in Europe and with some of the top teams in South America, and we are thrilled to announce his addition to our squad,” D.C. general manager Dave Kasper said in a press release. “He will provide our back line with a big, physical presence, excellent technical ability and strong leadership qualities.”
Dudar joins United after a 2010-11 season that saw him miss significant time for BSC after suffering an early season concussion that kept him out for three months. In his first campaign for the Bern-based club in 2009-10, the Argentine played and started 31 matches in the Swiss Super League, as well as playing in both the Europa League and UEFA Champions League qualifying. Dudar was named the Swiss Super League defender of the year.
Dudar began his professional career at 19 with Vélez Sarsfield in his native Argentina. The hulking defender also spent time with Argentina’s U-20 national team while with El Fortín.
