Galaxy's Barrett dislocates ankle, ruled out of MLS Cup

CARSON, Calif. – If the LA Galaxy are to win their third MLS Cup, they'll likely have to do so without one of the key members of their starting lineup.

Chad Barrett dislocated his right ankle during the club's training session on Thursday, an injury that will rule out the forward for the MLS Cup final against the Houston Dynamo on Nov. 20, according to the club.

During a scrimmage at the end of practice, Barrett appeared to roll over his right ankle in the open field, an injury that caused the forward to drop to the ground in pain. Barrett was on the field receiving treatment from the Galaxy training staff for nearly 30 minutes before being taken away on an ambulance to a local hospital. Galaxy trainers later confirmed the extent of the injury.

“We're disappointed for Chad,” said head coach Bruce Arena. “He's been a great addition to our club in 2011 and we hope for a speedy recovery.”

The injury is devastating to the Galaxy, but also to Barrett, who has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career. The 26-year-old San Diego native was very productive during 2011, scoring seven goals and earning five assists for the Galaxy in league play while adding a goal in CONCACAF Champions League play as well.

Barrett's success has quickly solidified his role as Robbie Keane's top strike partner.
