Galaxy, Dynamo to play for MLS Cup in sold-out HDC

The Home Depot Center will host MLS Cup 2011.

The hottest ticket in Carson, Calif., on Nov. 20 will be the 2011 MLS Cup match between the LA Galaxy and the Houston Dynamo at The Home Depot Center. With 10 days to go before kickoff, all tickets – inluding the additional batch created on Thursday afternoon due to high demand – have been sold.

“Playing for a championship in front of our hometown fans will create an electric atmosphere that has not been seen in our league since 2002,” Galaxy president Tom Payne said in a press release. “The overwhelming response for tickets from Galaxy fans everywhere is truly unprecedented and a testament to the passion that our fans have for this club. We hope that we can reward that passion and support by winning MLS Cup in front of them on November 20.”

The Supporters’ Shield-winning Galaxy reached MLS Cup by defeating the New York Red Bulls in a Western Conference Semifinal series, followed by a victory in the Western Conference Championship game against Real Salt Lake.

The game on Nov. 20 will be LA’s seventh appearance in MLS Cup, a league record. They played for the title in 1996, ’99, 2001, ’02, ’05 and ’09, winning it in 2002 and ’05.

The 2011 edition marks the first time the Galaxy will play for the crown in their home stadium. They went undefeated in 23 contests (18-0-5) at The Home Depot Center throughout all competitions (MLS, CONCACAF Champions League and US Open Cup) this season.

For the Dynamo, this year’s final will be the team’s third in six years since they moved to Houston from San Jose in 2005. They reached the stage by beating the Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series and Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference Championship match.

Houston will look to maintain a perfect record in Cup appearances when they take on LA. In their previous two title games, in 2006 and ’07, the Dynamo emerged victorious both times.

The 2011 MLS Cup will be broadcast live at 9 pm ET (6 pm PT) on ESPN and Galavisión. There will also be a live chat on MLSsoccer.com.
