American Exports: Kljestan, Anderlecht running rampant

AMSTERDAM — American Exports and their clubs fared marginally better on Sunday, headlined by Sacha Kljestan's Anderlecht putting on a late woodshed show in a 5-0 derby rout of Standard Liège.


Up just one past the hour, the Belgian leaders piled on four goals in the final 20 minutes to win for the eighth straight time across all competitions.


Heading over to the EPL, a double rally by the hosts forced Brad Friedel and Tottenham to settle for a 2-2 draw at Newcastle.


The former USMNT star made four saves, including a pair of late dazzlers, but eventually was helpless to stop Shola Ameobi's equalizer four minutes from time.


One league below, in the Championship, Jonathan Spector went unused as Birmingham City climbed to 15th with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.


Elsewhere, Serie A action saw Michael Bradley pick up a yellow card during a strong shift as Chievo held visiting table toppers Juventus to a 0-0 stalemate.


The Flying Donkeys, who have not lost since installing the US midfielder into the line-up four games ago, nudged their way up to seventh with the result.


Over in Norway, Josh Gatt was pulled after just 12 minutes as Molde FK inched closer to its first Tippeligaen crown with a 0-0 home draw against Odd Grenland.


The young stand-in right back was removed as precaution after taking a thigh knock. Molde now stand eight points clear at the top with but four matches remaining.


Due south in the Bundesliga, Hannover 96 skipper Steve Cherundolo watched a 2-0 defeat at FC Cologne from the dugout.


Across the border in Denmark, struggles continued for Clarence Goodson's Brøndby in a tough 1-0 loss at FC Midtjylland. The Lads from the Western Outskirts conceded with just nine minutes left, dropping their fourth road game in five to slip to 10th place.


Conor O'Brien needed only three sub minutes of work to make the ref's book as SønderjyskE posted a 3-1 win at Brad Rusin's hapless HB Køge. Drafted into target forward duty, Rusin managed two shots on goal during his 30-minute shift.


Over in Russia, Eugene Starikov was a tactical casualty when cellar dwellers Tom Tomsk went down to 10 men on the half hour in a 3-0 loss at Lokomotiv Moscow.


Finally, in the Czech Gambrinus Liga, Stefan Jerome made a four-minute cameo in Sigma Olomouc's 1-1 draw against Mladá Boleslav.
