CARSON, Calif. – After several seasons of inconsistent play, Jorge Flores is finally realizing his dream.
The midfielder, who is affectionately known as “Sueno” since he won the Sueno MLS competition in 2007, has been one of the key cogs of Robin Fraser’s Chivas side after years on the fringes.
Playing primarily at left wing, Flores has made 24 starts in 25 appearances while scoring one goal and one assist. Prior to 2011, Flores appeared in more than ten games only once during the 2008 season.
Although the 22-year-old is enjoying his finest season to date, he knows that his job won’t be done correctly until the Rojiblancos can return to the post season.
"Personally, this has been the best season of my career because I have been playing regularly and I have remained healthy,” said Flores.
“But as a team, it has not been what we expected, because the goal is always reaching the playoffs, and winning MLS Cup and we did not do that."
Chivas top Galaxy in reserves match
Victor Estupinan and Marcos Mondaini tallied as the Chivas USA reserves defeated the LA Galaxy reserves 2-1 on Monday.
Chivas earned the victory while playing a number of their top academy players throughout the match. Former U.S. U-17 residency midfielder Marco Delagdo went 80 minutes for Chivas while fellow academy starlets Ben Spencer and Eric Gonzalez went 18 and 10 minutes respectively.
The victory is just the second of the year for the Chivas reserves, who picked up their first victory, the last time they faced the Galaxy back on May 3rd.
Rojiblancos see time in international matches
During the international break several members of Chivas USA saw extended time for their respective nations.
Michael Umaña went the distance for Costa Rica during Los Ticos’ 1-0 defeat to Brazil in a friendly in San Jose last Friday.
Meanwhile, forward Alejandro Moreno saw time for Venezuela as La Vinotinto began COMEBOL World Cup qualifying. Moreno played 45 minutes for Venezuela in a 2-0 defeat to Ecuador on Oct.7 before coming on in stoppage time during Venezuela’s 1-0 win over Argentina.
In CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, left back Ante Jazic went the distance for Canada in their 7-0 pummeling of St. Lucia last Friday and scoreless draw with Puerto Rico on Tuesday night.
