American Exports: Chandler picks up a knee injury

AMSTERDAM — Fresh US call-up Timothy Chandler is listed as questionable for FC Nürnberg's weekend Bundesliga opener at Hertha Berlin after suffering an injury during training on Wednesday.

Manager Dieter Hecking, also sweating the fitness of two other regulars, indirectly admitted to hoping Chandler would recover in time to take up his raiding right back role on Saturday.

"Timothy Chandler twisted his knee, which has led to pain in his calf," Hecking told the official club website. "These three question marks are giving me worry lines. I hope, however, that we will be able to line up in Berlin with the best possible formation."

Regardless of whether he appears against Hertha, the setback would appear to jeopardize his USMNT call-up for next week's revenge friendly with Mexico in Philadelphia. Jurgen Klinsmann will assemble his first group on Sunday.
