Chivas USA's Moreno helps Venezuela to draw vs. Brazil

Chivas USA’s Alejandro Moreno, the lone MLS representative at this year’s Copa America, helped Venezuela secure a valuable 0-0 draw with Brazil in both teams’ tournament opener on Sunday afternoon.

The Rojiblancos’ striker, who has three goals in 31 appearances with La Vinotinto, played the last 25 minutes of the match at La Plata and helped kill off the result in Group B. Moreno picked up a yellow card deep into second half stoppage time for delaying a restart.

Chivas USA alum Giancarlo Maldonado played the last 11 minutes for Venezuela, partnering Moreno in attack, while former Red Bull Gabriel Cichero went the full 90 minutes at left back.

Venezuela’s next opponent in group play is Ecuador. The two teams square off on Saturday, July 9.
