FRISCO, Texas — In the weekly installment featuring Schellas Hyndman, the FC Dallas head coach addresses 11 topics in brief, including FCD’s stunning loss to Sporting Kansas City, Brek Shea’s highlight-reel goal, and the rare friendly against the Venezuelan national team.
I. In a game pitting the worst team in the Eastern against the second best team in the West, Sporting Kansas City shocked the soccer community with a 4-1 thumping of FC Dallas on Sunday evening.
“I thought it was a very disappointing performance on our part. Give credit to Kansas City. They’re a team that was desperate and hadn’t gotten good results this year.”
II. Hyndman knows that the team’s effort does not mirror the quality that they possess.
“I think we are a much better team than what we showed [Sunday]. I know these guys very well and this was no way a reflection of what they are all about.”
III. One of the game's few highlights for FC Dallas was Shea’s goal that tied the score in the first half.
“I thought that was an outstanding goal. I think he took three to four players on, got into the box, and he just showed so much composure.”

IV-V. A year ago, the 21-year-old US national teamer might not have made that play.
“He’d have hit that as hard as he could right at the goalkeeper or missed the frame. But he showed so much composure just slotting it into the far post and it was a great opportunity for us to get back into the game.”
VI-VII. The club has a short week of training before leaving for Los Angeles on Thursday, and Hyndman is not looking back to Sunday’s shortcomings.
“It’s very important that we can put the game behind us and move forward. In fact, we are not even doing any evaluations of the game. There are not enough moments in the game for us to highlight good things.”
VIII. Next up is June’s lone road game, to Chivas USA, and it can’t arrive soon enough for the team.
“For us, it’s talking about, ‘Okay, that games past us now. What kind of team are we? When we go to Chivas, let’s get a good result.’”
IX-X. Before training for Saturday’s away game, the FCD reserves faced the Venezuelan national team in a 2-2 draw on Tuesday as La Vinotinto prepare for the Copa América in July.
“There’s a lot of talent on that field. A lot of talent that can beat a reserve team and I think what we did was we hung in there. [Andrew] Wiedeman scored a great goal. We created a couple of opportunities early.”
XI. 2011 acquisition Maykel Galindo scored a goal and assisted on Wiedeman’s blast, receiving high marks from his head coach.
“I was really pleased with Maykel Galindo. I thought he had a very good game. It’s the reason we brought him. He’s an experienced player and a skillful player that can read the game well.”
