WASHINGTON — D.C. United and Canadian defender Dejan Jakovic will miss the CONCACAF Gold Cup after suffering a hamstring injury in last week’s 2-2 friendly draw against Ecuador.
According to a D.C. United spokesman, Jakovic will return to the nation's capital to be evaluated by team doctors and rehab his injury. At this time, the complete extent of the injury is unknown and Jakovic will be closely monitored as he begins the recovery process.
The 25-year-old was looking to add to his haul of 11 caps in the June competition for Canada, including three at the 2009 Gold Cup.
Canada’s Gold Cup campaign begins Tuesday night against the United States in Detroit. D.C. United return to action at home against San Jose on Saturday.
