Dallas Cup, Day 8: Super Group final ends all wet

Tied at 1-1 in the second half, a hotly contested Gordon Jago Super Group final at the annual Dallas Cup seemed headed towards an entertaining conclusion on Sunday. Mother Nature, however, had other ideas.

A torrential downpour, thunder, lightning and a tornado warning around Pizza Hut Park forced the Super Group final to be called with the score tied, resulting in both Tigres and Eintracht Frankfurt to be named co-champions of the showcase of Dallas Cup.

US youth international Moises Orozco tallied for Tigres seconds before the halftime whistle, but Eintracht’s Dustin Ernst converted from the penalty spot canceled out Orozco’s strike. When the weather hit with 24 minutes left in the second half, and after an hour’s wait, the game was finally called off.

Knowsley Youth win U-19s

Liverpool-based side Knowsley made it count at Dallas Cup this time around, triumphing at the U-19 age group with a 4-2 win over Ajax Canada on Sunday. This was the first title for a club that has made the trip to Dallas every year since 1991.

Behind goals from Adam Black and Paul Mooney, Knowsley took a 3-1 lead in the second half against Ajax. Zacahary Mbolekwa looked to make a game of it in the 63rd minute, but Steven Tames provided an insurance goal eight minutes later to all but seal the long-awaited title.
