Sueño MLS 2011 Chicago

Sueño MLS 2011 – presented by Allstate moves on to Philadelphia

The dream rolls on. This weekend, Sueño MLS 2011 – presented by Allstate pulls into Philadelphia, its final stop before the finals in Dallas two weeks from now.

The past two weekends, first in Dallas and then in Chicago, have already revealed some great potential in young players vying for a chance to sign a professional contract with an MLS team.

In Dallas, six finalists were named, including one goalkeeper competing to be named El Portero Allstate. (Click here to meet the six finalists from Dallas.)

In Chicago, another six young players were named as finalists. They will be revealed this Sunday on Univision’s “Republica Deportiva” (11 am ET).

This weekend, Sueño MLS 2011 – presented by Allstate arrives in the City of Brotherly Love. Another 400-plus young trialists will try to impress the Philadelphia Union academy technical staff, including Union reserve team coach Brendan Burke.

The contestants, all teenagers, come from many diverse backgrounds and bring with them inspirational stories. Some have traveled to Philadelphia from distant states in the hopes of making their dreams come true.

For example, Mauro Nolasco, a 16-year-old left back from Plant City, Florida, has come north with his family for the tryout. He started playing soccer after happening upon a game while walking with his mother through a local park. At the time, his family couldn’t afford the cost of playing, but team’s coach made an exception for the talented player.

Seventeen-year-old Ivan Berterame, a forward from the Bronx, New York, moved to the United States when he was in 8th grade. He struggled to learn English at first, but after joining a soccer team, he began to pick it up. Now, he is about to graduate from high school and is even learning Italian.

Luis Colon, an 18-year-old striker from Wharton, New Jersey, has had some success already. When he was 15, his club team came in second in the national championship. Now he’s hoping for even more success.

These are just a few of the young players who will take to the fields at Sueño MLS 2011 – presented by Allstate this weekend in Philadelphia.

Will they make it to the finals? We’ll see.

The finalists from Philadelphia will be revealed on Univision’s “Republica Deportiva” on Sunday, May 1.
