American Exports: Edu, Rangers draw in Europa

AMSTERDAM – The Europa League kicked off its round of 16 on Thursday, with Maurice Edu putting in a full shift as Rangers posted a 0-0 first-leg draw at PSV Eindhoven.

The former Toronto FC man was utilized like a chess piece by manager Walter Smith, who repeatedly moved the midfielder about in the center of a strategic 5-4-1 set. Chances were at a premium on the night, with Rangers generally content to keep 10 men behind the ball.

Elsewhere, Oguchi Onyewu watched from the dugout as FC Twente got a leg up in their series with a 3-0 home win over Zenit St. Petersburg.
