With the final weekend of February upon us, the last window of limited Development Academy action gets under way.
Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake are the only two MLS clubs to send their academy sides into action this weekend. The rojiblancos get a chance to play against Cosmos West, an important SoCal Division matchup.
On Sunday, RSL’s Arizona-based group travels to California, and takes on the California Development Academy on both age levels. Other SoCal Division action includes a Pateadores-Real So Cal tilt, and Arsenal FC playing California Development Academy.
The only other part of the country to see significant action is out east in the Atlantic Division. Virginia is where all the action is going to be, with all four Virginia-based teams playing on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday’s action is a busy slate, with southern teams making the trip up north. North Meck SC visits McLean Youth Soccer at George Mason, while Charlotte Soccer Academy and the North Carolina Fusion play Richmond Strikers and Kickers, respectively. Rounding out the day is CASL Chelsea playing Virginia Rush AJ Auxerre in Virginia Beach.
Matchups flip-flop on Sunday, as the Charlotte Soccer Academy travels up to Northern Virginia to face McLean Youth Soccer, while CASL Chelsea takes on the Kickers and North Meck SC plays the Strikers. Finally, the Fusion travel from Richmond to play Virginia Rush.
The race is heating up in the Atlantic Division, with McLean Youth Soccer currently leading the way on the U-16 level, while Charlotte Soccer Academy is on top of the U-18s.
