Freddie Ljungberg, who was traded to the Chicago Fire from the Seattle Sounders midway through the 2010 season, could join Scottish powerhouse Celtic, according to reports in Europe.
The Swedish midfielder, who spent nine seasons at EPL side Arsenal, reportedly arrived in Glasgow on Sunday evening for a trial of sorts.
"He's coming in and he'll have a look at us," Celtic manager Neil Lennon said. "We think he's got great calibre. He's been a world-class player for a long time."
Ljungberg was a major part of Seattle's inaugural season in 2009, scoring two goals and adding nine assists. But his relationship with the club became strained in the early part of the 2010 campaign and he was shipped off to Chicago in July. With the Fire, he made 15 appearances, scoring two goals and posting seven assists.
But it looks like the 33-year-old, whose contract ended this year, is headed back to Europe.
"His agent contacted us, and we like the idea of it - because he's got a bit of experience," Lennon explained. "He's got the quality, so he's coming in for a couple of days and if we like each other, we might be able to get a deal done. It's a bit of personality, and a bit of character - but, above all that, he'll bring a bit of quality as well."
