US U-18s lose to Germany in tourney closer

Mike Matkovich's U-18 side fell to France, 3-0.

The United States Under-18 squad finished out the Traditional Winter Tournament in Israel with a 2-1 lost to Germany on Friday.

CASL Chelsea's Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler opened the scoring the 62nd minute. It was the first goal for the American squad during the three-game set that saw them fall 3-0 to France before earning a 0-0 draw with Israel on Thursday

The Stars and Stripes didn't have long to savor their lead, as German forward Shawn Parker beat Sporting Kansas City's Jonthan Kempin just five minutes later.

The squads battled back and forth until German center back Antonio Rudiger broke the deadlock with only one minute remaining. The defender struck a 50-yard free kick that eluded Kempin and found the upper corner of the net.
