BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. ā About nine months after Carlos de los Cobos decided to leave his post as manager of the Salvadoran National Team, he apparently remains the best option for job. But the Chicago Fire coach is having none of it at the moment.
Last week, Jaime RodrĆguez, president of El Salvadorās National Institute of Sports (INDES), said heās willing to talk to both the Salvadoran Soccer Federation and de los Cobos to help put the Mexican manager back in charge.
ā[De los Cobos] knows that the doors are open for his return,ā said RodrĆguez last week. āHe told us heād return. If I propose it ā if we propose it ā heāll return.ā
However, RodrĆguez, a former Salvadoran international and World Cup veteran, added that, out of respect, heās waiting for the current MLS season to end before talking to de los Cobos about the job.
De los Cobos, who managed los Cuscatlecos from 2006 to 2009, publicly responded to the RodrĆguezās call on Thursday.
āItās true that in El Salvador the people want me to return to work with the national team,ā de los Cobos told MLSsoccer.com. āI know that they are trying to connect with me, but right now I am only thinking about my job here.
āI have a big commitment with the club and I am very focused on the last part of the season,ā continued the Mexican coach. āI canāt think about another situation. I need to stay very focused in my job here and after we will see what happens.ā
El Salvador interim manager JosĆ© Luis Ragamas, a former assistant of de los Cobos, has also stated that heād like the Fire manager to return.
