El Salvador want de los Cobos back

El Salvador want Carlos de los Cobos back, but manager says he's focused on Chicago.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. ā€“ About nine months after Carlos de los Cobos decided to leave his post as manager of the Salvadoran National Team, he apparently remains the best option for job. But the Chicago Fire coach is having none of it at the moment.

Last week, Jaime RodrĆguez, president of El Salvadorā€™s National Institute of Sports (INDES), said heā€™s willing to talk to both the Salvadoran Soccer Federation and de los Cobos to help put the Mexican manager back in charge.

ā€œ[De los Cobos] knows that the doors are open for his return,ā€ said RodrĆguez last week. ā€œHe told us heā€™d return. If I propose it ā€“ if we propose it ā€“ heā€™ll return.ā€

However, RodrĆguez, a former Salvadoran international and World Cup veteran, added that, out of respect, heā€™s waiting for the current MLS season to end before talking to de los Cobos about the job.

De los Cobos, who managed los Cuscatlecos from 2006 to 2009, publicly responded to the RodrĆguezā€™s call on Thursday.

ā€œItā€™s true that in El Salvador the people want me to return to work with the national team,ā€ de los Cobos told MLSsoccer.com. ā€œI know that they are trying to connect with me, but right now I am only thinking about my job here.

ā€œI have a big commitment with the club and I am very focused on the last part of the season,ā€ continued the Mexican coach. ā€œI canā€™t think about another situation. I need to stay very focused in my job here and after we will see what happens.ā€

El Salvador interim manager JosĆ© Luis Ragamas, a former assistant of de los Cobos, has also stated that heā€™d like the Fire manager to return.
