Earthquakes sign Argentine midfielder Javier Robles

The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they have signed Argentine midfielder Javier Robles. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Javier brings some versatility to us, having the ability to play anywhere in midfield," said General Manager John Doyle. "He is very creative on the ball, and can help provide a spark to our team."

The 5-8 midfielder from Argentina came up through the Velez Sarsfield youth system and made his debut in the Argentinean first division with them. He played in the 2006 Apertura and 2007 Clausura with Velez Sarsfield, appearing in 14 games before moving to Olimpo de Bahia Blanca for the 2008 Clausura.

After 11 appearances with Olimpo, he took his game to Chile, where he played for Santiago Wanderers in the Chilean First Division. He then returned to Olimpo for the 2008-09 season and made 18 appearances with three goals.

He played the 2009 Apertura season with Velez Sarsfield last fall, helping them to a fifth place finish. He joined the Quakes this preseason and scored a goal against the Fresno Fuego in an exhibition last weekend.
