L.A. GALAXY FACE CHICAGO FIRE ON SATURDAY, APRIL 8 AT 7:30 PM (PT) AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER FOLLOWED BY POST-GAME FIREWORKS SHOW: The 2005 MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy continues the 2006 season on Saturday, April 8 when they host the Chicago Fire at 7:30 pm (PT), presented by Verizon Wireless, at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University - Dominguez Hills. Courtesy of Verizon Wireless, the Galaxy will be handing out thundersticks to the first 10,000 fans at the game. In addition, Galaxy fans will be able to watch a special post-game fireworks celebration immediately following the match. The Galaxy is looking to rebound for its first win of the season following a 1-0 opening night defeat to the New England Revolution April 1 at The Home Depot Center. Clint Dempsey scored the only goal for the Revolution in the 33rd minute. The Fire also dropped its season opener 3-2 to FC Dallas on April 1.
For those Galaxy fans unable to make it out to The Home Depot Center, the game will be televised LIVE on FSN Primeticket, beginning with the Galaxy Live pre-game show at 7 pm and will also be broadcast LIVE on the radio in Spanish on KMXE 830 am and English on CA$H 1700 AM.
2005 CHAMPIONSHIP RING CEREMONY: Saturday night before kick-off, the Los Angeles Galaxy celebrated the club's historic "Double" from 2005 in which the club became the third in League history to capture the MLS Cup and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championships in the same year, receiving their championship rings following a special video tribute and moment of silence that honored the life of Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton.
GORDON UNDERGOES SUCCESFUL SURGERY: L.A. Galaxy forward Alan Gordon underwent successful surgery to repair a sports hernia on Monday. Dr. Craig Smith performed the surgery at Centinela Hospital in Los Angeles. Gordon, who appeared in five games with the Galaxy in 2005, is expected to be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks. Gordon scored one goal and registered one assist with the Galaxy reserve team last season.
2006 L.A. GALAXY TOURNAMENTS AND EVENTS: The L.A. Galaxy are pleased to announce that the Galaxy Clasico II adult soccer tournament and Copa LA V youth soccer tournament will both be returning to the San Bernardino Soccer Complex in 2006.
The second annual Galaxy Clasico II will take place on May 20th and 21st, and will see competitive teams in the Men's and Women's Open Divisions, as well as friendly competition in the Men's Over 30, Over 40, and Over 50 divisions, plus the Women's Over 30 division. The Men's Open Division will play for a cash prize and the chance to be seen Galaxy scouts will be in attendance.
The fifth anniversary of the Copa L.A. V tournament will again take place over Memorial Day weekend from May 27th - 29th in San Bernardino. Besides playing in a first class tournament at a great facility, participants will also have fun enjoying the sponsor booths and gifts, appearances by Galaxy players, and many other elements sure to create the memory of a lifetime for all those in attendance. Galaxy Deportivo, hosted by Los Angeles area personality Elmer Polanco, can be seen at the same time each and every Saturday on Channel 22.
