Weekly update: Bobblehead night

Chivas USA will try for their second straight win Saturday night.

Carson, Calif. - Chivas USA (2-4-1, 7 pts.) will go for their second win in a row when they take on the Colorado Rapids (3-2-2, 11 pts.) this Saturday, June 3 at 7:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center (Radio: KTNQ 1020 AM, TV: FSN PRIME TICKET, Web: MLSLIVE.tv). Fans attending Saturday's game will receive a Francisco Palencia bobblehead, while supplies last.


WORLD CUP BOBBLEHEAD ACTION BEGINS JUNE 3: In addition to the Paco Palencia bobblehead, three other Chivas World Cup Veterans will be similarly honored: Ramón Ramírez (June 18), Oswaldo Sánchez (June 28) and Claudio Suárez (July 1).


LAST GAME: Chivas USA beat the Chicago Fire 1-0 last Saturday at The Home Depot Center on a 2nd-minute goal by Juan Pablo García. Meanwhile, Colorado is coming off a 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake last Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.


COPA SAPRISSA: The Chivas USA Under-19 team continues its great performance in the Copa Saprissa with a 2-1-2 record after five games. Today Tuesday, the U-19's drew 3-3 against Cruzeiro to accumulate a total of 7 points. Other teams competing in the tournament include Saprissa (Costa Rica), Boca Juniors (Argentina), Real Madrid (Spain) and Chivas USA's sister team Chivas de Guadalajara of Mexico, among others. RAZOV BECOMES MLS' THIRD ALL-TIME SCORER: Ante Razov has tallied the 89th goal of his illustrious MLS career to put him in third place in the all-time MLS goalscoring list. At the same time, his fifth goal of the season put him in second place in MLS scoring this season and first place on Chivas USA's all-time goalscoring list.


BRADLEY WATCH: Head Coach Bob Bradley attained his 116th victory in the regular season, a record in MLS. The second place belongs to former Chivas USA head coach and current U.S. Under-20 coach, Thomas Rongen who has 83 wins.


'SUPER CLASICO' ARRIVES: After hosting Colorado, Chivas USA will have their next game against the Galaxy, next Thursday June 8 as 'visitors' to their cross town rivals. This will be the second match between the two teams after the Galaxy beat Chivas USA 2-1 in the first game.

SUÁREZ STARTS AGAINST FRANCE: Claudio Suárez played 66 minutes in Mexico's 1-0 loss to France this past Saturday in Paris. The defender had an outstanding performance as central defender in the five-man backline used by coach Ricardo Lavolpe. The Mexican team is currently in Holland, where they are training for their match against the Dutch national team on Thursday, June 1. 'El Tri' will then head off to Germany, where they will kick off the 2006 World Cup June 11 against Iran.


O'BRIEN STARTS AGAINST LATVIA: John O'Brien continues his preparation with the American squad before their next exhibition game against Morocco on May 23 in Nashville, Tennessee. Following its 1-0 victory over Latvia on Sunday, in which O'Brien started and played 66 minutes, the U.S. team will take a three-day rest before departing on Thursday, June 1 for Germany, where it will play a closed-door scrimmage versus Angola on June 5 before opening the World Cup on June 12 against the Czech Republic.


VIRGIN OF MIRACLES: The Virgin of Zapopan continues her journey through Southern California. This past Thursday Chivas USA midfielder Juan Pablo García, scorer of Chivas USA's only goal in Saturday's victory, visited the Holy Virgin of Jalisco. The ChivaTroca will continue to transport this revered statue of the Virgin Mary through her pilgrimage in over 12 Southern California churches, which will end with a special mass at The Home Depot Center on July 15, the date of the third 'Honda Super Clasico' of 2006.


BARCELONA AND AMÉRICA COMING TO TOWN: 2006 UEFA Champions League winner and Spanish champion Barcelona will be in Los Angeles August 6 to face a Mexican First Division Team to be announced. Ronaldinho, Messi, Marquez and Eto'o will be among the stars that will face the Mexican squad in the doubleheader that will also include Chivas USA vs. the New England Revolution. Earlier, in July, Club América of Mexico will be in town to face Chivas USA in a special exhibition match on Sunday, July 23. GUADALAJARA UPDATE: Mexican international Juan Pablo Rodríguez is Club Deportivo Guadalajara's newest player, having been acquired by Chivas Guadalajara during the 2006 'Draft', Mexico's offseason transfer period. Players of Chivas USA's sister club are currently enjoying a well-deserved rest after their exhausting campaign in the Mexican playoffs and the 2006 Copa Libertadores. Guadalajara resumes play in the Libertadores on July 20 when they take on Vélez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires in the second leg of the teams' quarterfinal matchup, following a 0-0 draw in the first leg May 5 at Guadalajara's Estadio Jalisco.


CHIVAS USA FUTBOL ACADEMY: The Chivas USA Futbol Academy continues play this week in preparation for this weekend's slate of games in Baldwin Park, with sessions at The Home Depot Center's Field 5 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.
