United 2, Wizards 1 -- quote sheet

D.C. UNITED 2, KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 1

D.C. UNITED DEFENDER BOBBY BOSWELL

On tonight's game plan:
"I think we just really went out today to play our game at home. You know we had a good formation. Our goal was to move the ball around, with what they were saying in the media about how they [Kansas City] played against Chicago and how they were looking to shut down our style of play. I think our goal tonight was just to pass the ball around them. I think we had moments where we looked brilliant. I think it goes back to just getting a win."

D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER BRIAN CARROLL

On communication out of the back:
"It was just a job of making sure we had better communication out of the back between me, Freddy [Adu], and Christian [Gomez]."

On playing as the sole defensive midfielder:
"It is a little more responsibility and I'm just going to need to get used to it, if that's how it's going to be. Freddy and Christian had to do much more defensively than they are used to, but they did a good job. They stuck with runners as best they could."

D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER FREDDY ADU

On the game tonight:
"It was a big win - thank goodness we got that second goal."

D.C. UNITED FORWARD JAIME MORENO

On the game:
"It was a good game, a tight game. We couldn't finish it in the last 10 minutes. We're going to have to work on finishing. You know that's part of the game, part of the excitement. Right now, you know, we've just got to work harder to be that lead."

On taking over first place:
"It's a long season and we just have to work harder to maintain that lead and our points."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH BOB GANSLER

On the game:
"[It was] Exciting - a nice atmosphere, as it always at D.C. Congratulate D.C. for scoring two and holding us to one. I think this was an even game - if this winds up to be a tie on the scoreboard or we win by one. I think that would have been just as well. But I thought we played pretty well, we played forward. The way you play D.C. is not to try and defend, [but] it's to try to attack them. And the guys held to that thinking and we cleared a lot of opportunities and they were fortunate twice and we were fortunate once."

On playing different players with World Cup absences:
"We played the same way with the same overall thinking process as we do when those other three guys are here. By the way, those other three guys have missed about 20 percent of this year. They've been in this situation in preseason and in Florida, etc, etc. You know the biggest thing is that the young guys [have to] get rid of awe, and they've done that. You've never played against D.C. United, you've never played at this place, you've never played with this kind of enthusiastic crowd - you wonder. You know what, they not only survived, I thought they thrived."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS MIDFIELDER SASHA VICTORINE

On the team's performance:
"I think that we're all playing in this place - D.C. is a tough place to play and I think with missing the three guys we have and some of the guys getting maybe their first minutes of the year, I think we played very well and a couple opportunities go one way or the other and so the win is a win. You know we're tired and we're right there in it and I think a lot of guys got good experience and grew up a little today and I think the team overall gained some confidence. It's disappointing obviously that we lost, but I don't think it's something to put your heads down. You've got to build on it and keep going forward."

On being the leading scorer on the team:
It's funny, I just try to do what I can to help the team and obviously I'd rather get more assists than goals. If I'm getting all the goals then obviously there's a problem, so for me it would be nice to get some assists. It would be nice to get more assists and get the guys involved, get them more opportunities. You know, we have opportunities to be able to score. Right now, it's just things are not falling in the back of the net for us. It'll happen, there will come a time when we'll see that little change and we'll start putting things away."
