Schopp wastes no time in helping Bulls

Markus Schopp

first finding space and taking a shot right at goalkeeper Troy Perkins and later latching onto an Amado Guevara cross and putting a header over the ball.

Schopp said that he is still adapting to the pace of play.

"With every game you play, [the adjustment] becomes better, but we'll see," Schopp said. "I felt in the half I was playing on Wednesday, I was okay, but with [only] three days until the second match, it is not a lot of time to come back and play for a long time."

Nevertheless, his contributions have already impressed many of his teammates, despite the fact that he is just getting his feet wet.

"He's a great player. He's got a lot of experience and you need that," said midfielder Dema Kovalenko. "It's tough that he come in here with three games left. He'll just try to help us as much as he can in those three games and then we'll see what happens."

And while Schopp understandably has a lot going on off the field as he settles into the New York area, he is focused on helping provide some veteran leadership and help the Red Bulls however he can.

"[Arena and I] were speaking a lot because he wants the [experienced] players on the field to work with the young guys and this is the first and most important thing we have to do," Schopp said. "I hope that in the last three matches we will collect enough points for the playoffs."
