Midfielder Guevara obtains Green Card

SECAUCUS, N.J. - Red Bull New York announced today that Honduran midfielder Amado Guevara received his Permanent Resident Card- more commonly referred to as "Green Card" today. Green Cards are granted by the United States government to any person not a citizen of the United States who is residing the in the U.S. under legally recognized and lawfully recorded permanent residence as an immigrant.

"I want to congratulate Amado on receiving his Permanent Resident Card and moving one step closer to becoming a citizen of the United States," said Red Bull New York President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "This benefits both Amado and the Red Bulls, on and off the soccer field, and we're all looking forward to starting the 2006 season this weekend."

Because of this, Guevara will no longer count as one of the four allotted "Senior International" slots on the club's roster. The Red Bulls now have two Senior International spots open, with the other two occupied by Youri Djorkaeff (France) and Peter Canero (Scotland).

The 2004 MLS Most Valuable Player, Guevara enjoyed another strong season in 2005, as he tallied 11 goals and 11 assists. He also recorded the first two hat-tricks of his career- on April 30 at Colorado and on August 21 versus Chivas USA.

The Red Bulls open up their 2006 season at D.C. United on April 2 at 5:00 p.m.
