K.C. camp wraps with full-field work

Sasha Victorine and the Wizards are looking forward to heading to Florida.

The Kansas City Wizards spent their last day of practice in Kansas City running a full-field scrimmage and focusing on fitness and weight training. The team also worked on keeping a lead, playing a man down and pushing for a goal.

"We really wanted the players to focus on using both their minds and their bodies," assistant coach Chris Henderson said. "We worked on certain aspects during our full-field scrimmage, and I'm really pleased with our progress throughout the past week."

The team will head to Bradenton, Fla., on Sunday, where they will train and play various MLS teams in exhibition matches. The past week of training will set them up nicely for the intense period of workouts they will face in Florida.

"I thought the scrimmage today helped prepare us for Florida," midfielder Sasha Victorine said. "I have been surprised with the overall quality of play this early in the season, and we're all looking forward to getting sun in Bradenton next week and stepping up our level of training and fitness."

The Wizards will play their first match in Florida against the New York Red Bulls on Tuesday. For updates, be sure to check back with KCWizards.com.
