Crew 1, Rapids 0 -- quote sheet

COLUMBUS CREW 1, COLORADO RAPIDS 0

CREW HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID

On the game:
"It's a rainy day, you have to play a little different. We have two guys gets off the plane in Joseph and Ned and play, and Leo really hasn't trained that much with us as well, so we're trying to integrate new people. I think for sure Joseph showed tonight what he can bring. He is amazingly fit and he unbalances defenses and that's what he brings. And Ned Grabavoy is a clever player. That's what I expect from him. Being able to make decisive plays at decisive moments and that's the reason we made that trade. I was happy with a lot of people tonight. Every week we have to come up with a new lineup. Right now we have to win games even though we are looking for that cohesion and we're doing that. I couldn't be more proud of the effort that our team has put in under some very difficult situations. We had to make no choices as to who to suit today for our 18 players. We only had 18 players. The other guys are all injured. There were no decisions that had to be made."

CREW MIDFIELDER NED GRABAVOY

On the game:
"It helps to get in there. It helps out so much because it just makes us feel a part of the team right away. We are both excited and three points tonight at home is the important thing. Coming here I knew I wanted to make a difference, whether I was starting, coming off the bench, whether I didn't play at all and I had to wait until next week to train and try to get into the game next week. I wanted to get in there and make an impact right away. He's a fair coach. He says it how it is. If you don't play well you're not going to play in the games. If you do what he needs and what he wants he is going to reward you. That's all you can really ask for as a player. If you come to training every day with the right mind set and you are a good player and you work hard and you deserve time, you'll get in. And if you show well when you play, then you'll get more. I think that's what all players want. Sig had me in there behind Jason, underneath him. I think I just found the ball at the top of the box and tried to make something happen and it worked out."

COLORADO HEAD COACH FERNANDO CLAVIJO

On the game:
"We came to play. We played extremely well at times. The only thing I can say to my players is we aren't going to lose many games like this. We outplayed them, we outshot them, we came to play, we opened up and went forward. But to win games you have to score and we didn't and they did. You have to give them credit. We have to go back to the drawing board and keep working."
