CHIVAS USA U-18'S, U-16'S MAKE STRONG SHOWINGS VS. U.S. YOUTH NATIONAL TEAMS:


The Chivas USA Under-18 and Under-16 teams kicked off their respective 2008-09 seasons this past Saturday with a pair of friendlies against their counterparts from the United States Youth National Teams at The Home Depot Center. Led by a goal from returning MF Jesse Paredes and a two-goal performance by FW Andy Lopez, the Chivas USA U-18's, coached by Sacha van der Most, earned a 3-3 draw against their U.S. opponents, while the U-16's, coached by Samuel Rivas, put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell by a scoreline of 2-0. Both U.S. Youth National Teams were comprised of players currently in residency under U.S. U-17 head coach and former Colombia World Cup star Wilmer Cabrera. Chivas USA's Youth Teams now turn to their 2008-09 Development Academy openers as they face San Diego Surf on Sept. 28.

CHIVAS USA ANNOUNCES YOUTH TEAM ROSTERS FOR 2008-09 DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY SEASON:


The Chivas USA Under-18 and Under-16 Teams, which will compete in the upcoming 2008-09 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, have been announced and will play their first official matches next weekend against the San Diego Surf. The rosters for each team are below:

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? FORMER CHIVAS USA U-19 PLAYER ERIC AVILA NOTCHES ASSIST FOR FC DALLAS:


This past weekend, former Chivas USA U-19 Team member Eric Avila notched his second assist of the 2008 season for FC Dallas in the team's 2-2 draw with D.C. United on Sept. 13. In the 79th minute, Avila broke toward the end line and played a low ball across the box for teammate Andre Rocha, whose shot found the net to tie the game at two. A midfielder from San Diego, Avila played for the Chivas USA U-19 Team in early 2005, before joining the ranks of U.C. Santa Barbara that fall, playing for the Gauchos for three seasons and capturing an NCAA Championship in 2006. He was drafted 19th overall by FC Dallas in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, and has played 10 matches (starting three) so far this season with Dallas.

'KICK-IT' THIS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 AT WESTCHESTER RECREATION CENTER NEAR LAX:


'Kick-it at the Park L.A. with Chivas USA' continues this Saturday, September 20, with a clinic at Westchester Recreation Center, located at 7000 W. Manchester Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90045. A series of four, 90-minute clinics kicks off at 9:00 a.m., followed by clinics at 10:45 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Run in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, 'Kick-it' is a series of clinics that emphasize physical fitness, sports, and education for as many as 400 children at each of 40 locations throughout the year. A five-dollar fee gets participants 90 minutes of instruction, a voucher for a free ticket to a Chivas USA game, a t-shirt, soccer ball, and Certificate of Completion. Most recently, Chivas USA held a clinic at the Studio City Recreation Center at 12621 Rye Street in Studio City on Sept. 6. The U.S Soccer Development Academy is a nationwide youth development initiative, organized by the U.S. Soccer Federation, featuring 74 of the top youth teams in the country competing in a league system at both the U-18 and U-16 levels. The season will run from September of 2008 until June of 2009. The 74 youth programs, including one U.S. Youth National Team in each age group, are divided into eight regions, each of which will send a single qualifier to the national finals to be held at The Home Depot Center after the regular season concludes in late June.
