Chatting with ... Chivas USA's Paco Palencia

Chivas USA forward Juan Francisco "Paco" Palencia is a veteran of World Cup play with the Mexican national team. Read what he has to say about his country's chances this year and what he thinks of U.S. midfielder and current Chivas USA teammate John O'Brien.
1. You have a lot of experience with the Mexican national team. How do you think Mexico will do in this year's World Cup?

Paco Palencia: It's tough to predict how they will do. It's always hard to predict what will happen in the World Cup as all teams come prepared to play. Until the results are in, you really can't say one way or another.

2. While most know of Rafael Marquez or Jared Borgetti, are there Mexican players that will gain headlines in Germany this summer?

PP: I think Luis Perez and Carlos Salcido are excellent players who will open some eyes.

3. What is the mentality that Mexico needs to have in order to make history in this World Cup?

PP: Mexico has already gotten over any problems in the past when it comes to the mentality of the team. They are a mentally strong team that will play with extreme motivation. I think any sense of fear is a thing of the past.

4. In your opinion, who are the best forwards that will be on display in the World Cup?

PP: [Brazil's] Ronaldinho, although he technically doesn't play upfront, gets as many chances as any forward. I think [Portugal's] Cristiano Ronaldo would fall into the same category.

5. You are a teammate of John O'Brien. How do you think he will fare at the Cup and what do you expect from the U.S. national team?

PP: John played great in 2002 and unfortunately injury problems have kept him from playing in most of our league games. We are hoping that this month with the national team helps get back to full strength.

6. Who do you think will lift the trophy come July 9? What team will be the surprise in Germany?

PP: México and I hope the team that surprises everyone as well.
