Behind the Badge: Honduras arrival

Luciano Emilio hopes to put one 'in the net' against Olimpia on Wednesday.

D.C. United arrived in Tegucigalpa, Honduras Monday, two days in advance of the club's highly anticipated CONCACAF Champions' Cup showdown with CD Olimpia. Having boarded a flight from Miami, the club was met at the airport by dozens of local journalists seeking comment from former CD Olimpia star forward and current United striker Luciano Emilio. The horde followed the Black-and-Red to their hotel and, later, to a training session at Estadio National.

Under the guidance of head coach Tom Soehn, United worked off some of the effects of the two-and-a-half hour flight with a spirited 60-minute session. The four-time MLS Cup champions will be honored at a luncheon hosted by the U.S. Ambassador to Honduras and train again Tuesday night.

D.C. United open play Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports Espanol (tape-delayed at 11 p.m. ET) and North Cone. The return leg will take place at RFK Stadium on March 1 at 7 p.m. ET.

It's in the net
Despite never having played in a real game with D.C. United, it is obvious that Luciano Emilio has been scouting games featuring his new club. As he participated in a shooting drill during Monday's training session, the Brazilian striker gave a nod to Dave Johnson, the club's long-time television play-by-play announcer, by yelling "It's in the net! It's in the net!" after each goal.
