Agoos named RBNY technical director

Red Bull New York announced today that former U.S. National Team defender and MLS standout Jeff Agoos will become the organization's Technical Director effective January 1, 2007. In this role, Agoos will be responsible for scouting players at the amateur and professional levels, both domestically and internationally. He will also work with the MLS League Office on technical matters pertaining to the club.

"We are very pleased to have Jeff join our staff," said New York Red Bulls Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena. "His playing career speaks for itself and we hope that he has similar success in his new position with Red Bull New York."

The most decorated player in MLS history, Agoos was a member of five MLS Cup championship teams, earning three titles with D.C. United (1996-1997, 1999) and two with the San Jose Earthquakes (2001, 2003). An eight-time MLS All-Star and three-time MLS Best XI winner, Agoos also garnered MLS Defender of the Year honors in 2001 and was named to the League's All-Time Best XI in 2005. He spent his final year playing in New York in 2005, making 25 starts.

A member of the 1998 and 2002 United States World Cup squads, Agoos ranks second all-time in U.S. National Team appearances with 134, trailing only Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Cobi Jones (164).

In college, Agoos was a four-time All American at the University of Virginia, playing under Arena from 1986-1989. The Cavaliers won the National Title during his senior season in 1989.
