Wizards tied up by Galaxy magic

Davy Arnaud

only to see his powerful blast rattle off the face of the crossbar. Then seconds later Ruiz hit what would have been a magnificent equalizer with a full overhead bicycle kick, only for the attempt to sail right into Meola's hands.

Referee Tobon had indicated five minutes of added time, mostly for the scuffle late in the half, and when a late corner was cleared it seemed the Wizards had weathered the storm. But Herzog swung in the rebound from the left for one last try, and Marshall sent a glancing header inside the far post for the equalizer and a share of the spoils.

The Wizards still have a chance to claim top spot in the Western Conference heading into the All-Star break, when they play host to the MetroStars on Wednesday (8:30 p.m. ET). The Galaxy next play on Sunday, August 8, when they travel to Giants Stadium to face the Metros (6 p.m. ET).
