Wizards forward Detter announces retirement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Wizards forward Justin Detter announced today that he will retire from the Kansas City Wizards and Major League Soccer. He was in his second season with the Wizards and a member of the developmental roster.


Detter, 22, was drafted by the Wizards in the 5th round of the 2004 MLS SuperDraft (47th overall) out of Notre Dame. He appeared in six matches, including two starts, during his rookie season and had made four appearances so far this season.


In Reserve Division play, Detter had appeared in all seven Wizards reserves matches. Including four starts. He wrapped up his professional career in fitting fashion, scoring the game-winning goal against the Chivas USA Reserves last Sunday, the Wizards Reserves first win of the season.
