Wizards down Brass

The Kansas City Wizards downed the Kansas City Brass of the PDL 8-0 in an exhibition match in Sedalia, Missouri on Wednesday night in the fifth match of the Wizards 2nd Annual Mid-America Barnstorming Exhibition Tour. Rookies Matt Taylor and Justin Detter each scored twice for the Wizards while Diego Walsh scored a goal and added three assists.

Playing for the second consecutive year in Sedalia, a small city located about 90 miles southeast of Kansas City, the Wizards entertained a vocal crowd with a dazzling display against the PDL side. Josh Wolff opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he found room on the right side and calmly slotted his shot home. Chris Klein nearly scored three minutes later when he hit the right post with a shot. In the 13th minute, the very next possession after Klein hit the post, Justin Detter would score his first of two goals on the night. Davy Arnaud also notched a goal just before the end of the first half.

After wholesale changes in the second half, the Wizards would continue to control the match and create a number of chances inside the Brass box. In the 66th minute, Walsh used a crafty move to shake his defender and send a ball across the box to Francisco Gomez, who hammered home a shot from a tight angle. Two minutes later, Walsh created space for himself and scored from close range.

Following his goal, Walsh intercepted the opening kick and sent a long ball into the Brass box as Matt Taylor separated himself from the defense and latched on to the ball, sending his shot into the back of the net. Taylor's second goal came in the 76th minute, also set up by Diego Walsh, while Justin's Detter added his second goal in second half stoppage time on a nice cross from the right side from Taylor Graham.

The Kansas City defense, including Vuk Rasovic who saw his first action with the Wizards playing the full 90 minutes, minimized the Kansas City Brass' chances all night, rarely letting the opposition even get a clear shot on frame.

Kansas City returns to MLS action this weekend when they host the Chicago Fire at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, May 8th. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be "Chris Klein Bobblehead Night". The first 5,000 fans will receive a Chris Klein Bobblehead doll, compliments of Metro Sports.
